Did you know that according to a recent article, Americans toss 2 million tons of digital hardware (computers, cell phones, printers, etc.) a year? And sadly, most of these items are not recycled, but added to the growing garbage in our landfills. Fact is, there are hundreds of companies out there willing to take your electronic garbage. Some charge a fee - and some accept only local goods. Still, there are places you can send your electronic trash. For under $30 ($29.95) GreenDisk of Issaquah, Washington will send you a Technotrash Can for all your electronic waste. Once the box is filled to capacity, which holds up to 70lbs, you can download postage from the GreenDisk website and ship it back to them.

What does GreenDisk do with the items you send? GreenDisk distributes the goods to ten different workshops for the disabled around the country. Any data contained on the previously used items is erased, items are refurbished, and other items are reclaimed for office use. In 2005, a test run reaped 15 tons of trash. GreenDisk's goal for 2006? 2,000 tons. For more information and to order your Technotrash Can go to www.greendisk.com.
